Starting and Stopping the Monitoring Agent
Starting the Monitoring Agent
No manual action is required to start the monitoring agent. The monitoring agent starts automatically after installation and when the operating system boots.
The monitoring agent consists of a service (agent_service.exe) and an inspector (agent_inspector.exe), and may also include a tracking application (agent_tracking.exe).
The agent_service.exe service is an application that launches inspectors in each user session, unloads them from inactive sessions, and restarts them in case of failure. The agent_service.exe service automatically loads when Windows boots. There is always one service process.
The agent_inspector.exe inspector is the monitoring agent application. It is automatically launched by the agent_service.exe service in each user session. There can be multiple inspector processes. In Task Manager, there will be multiple agent_inspector.exe processes, one for each active session.
The tracking application extends the functionality of the monitoring agent and allows users to track time spent on tasks.
To collect employee activity, they must be assigned a license in the system's web interface, in the Settings > Users section.
Available licenses:
- Basic Monitoring
- Extended Monitoring
By default, no license is assigned to new users.
If a license is not assigned to an employee, the agent does not collect activity for them and, consequently, does not transmit it to the server.
A license can be assigned in two ways:
- Via bulk assignment:
- Go to the Users section.
- Select the users or departments for which you need to collect activity. Click the button with the selected users/departments next to the add button. In the dropdown menu, select License.
- Select the license type: Basic Monitoring or Extended Monitoring. Click Apply.
- Via a specific user's profile:
- Go to the profile of the user for whom you want to enable monitoring, and navigate to the Access tab.
- Click the License field and select the license type: Basic Monitoring or Extended Monitoring.
- Click the Apply button.
Changes to monitoring settings for users do not take effect immediately. The agent receives new settings from the application server every 30 minutes.
Stopping the Monitoring Agent
If necessary, you can stop the Operavix Agent monitoring service in the Windows Services snap-in. This is available to the operating system user with local administrator rights. In this case, monitoring will stop for all users on the computer.
You can also restart the monitoring agent service in the Services snap-in. Restarting the service can be used to receive settings from the application server more quickly.
